Contrary to the inclinations of a modern day lifestyle, getting a good night's sleep is not an option -- it's a key ingredient in maintaining optimum health. In this 4-week Peaceful Sleep Journey, you'll discover how feeling more at peace is an integral element of sleeping well. You'll put together a Peaceful Sleep Plan. As part of your Peace Plan, you'll explore herbs that help you relax so you can fall asleep and stay asleep.
Consider keeping an Herbal Journal throughout this month long journey as you become familiar with herbs that may become partners in your Peaceful Sleep Plan. Take note of how you feel after you sip your new friends as you do the relaxation techniques on the Mediteation Cards you'll find in your teabox. Remember, each teaspoon of your high quality herbs can be brewed for 2-3 steepings, providing you with a weeklong emersion with each herb. Happy sipping!
WEEK 1: MEET LEMON BALM
With a long history of use in traditional medicine, lemon balm is used to calm and soothe. It can be sipped as a tea, eaten in a salad, used as an essential oil, and added to flavor foods. This versatile herb makes a great companion to tame tension in day-to-day life.
WEEK 2: MEET HELYCHRYSUM
Rejuvenating and restorative, helichrysum is used both as a tea and in many beauty care products. In ancient Greece, the stunning flowering herb was used as an offering to the Gods. In Greek, "helios" means "sun" and "chrysos" means "gold." It grows on the dry rocky cliffs of the mediterranean.
WEEK 3: MEET VALERIAN ROOT
Used as a traditional medicine in ancient Greece and Rome for over 2,000 years, Valerian Root is considered to promote relaxation. The flowers of the plant are fragrant, however, the root is quite pungent. It’s best mixed with fragrant herbs.
WEEK 4: MEET WHOLE ELDERBERRY
Native American Indians and European herbalists have long used Elderberry to support immunity. While you never want to eat the raw berries, you can consume them safely by steeping them in a tea:
SPICED ELDERBERRY TEA
- Place elderberries, water and cinnamon/ginger (if using) in a pot.
- Bring water to a boil, then reduce heat and cover the pot.
- Simmer for 20 minutes, then strain out the berries.
- Sweeten to taste and serve.
You'll find soothing meditation techniques that compliment the special qualities of each herb on the Confidence Calendar and Mediteation cards.
