Sleep Easy Tea: Chamomile + Passion Flower

Certain herbs become more potent when they are paired together.

Chamomile is an herb that plays especially well with herbs to help you sleep better.

For those nights when you just can’t seem to fall asleep chamomile helps to relax you. It has also been known to help relieve anxiety.

Passionflower is an herb you might not be so familiar with sipping.

It hails from Peru, and has been associated with reducing anxiety.

The combination of the chamomile and passionflower together produces a prime sleep inducer.

The recipe below is easy to put together.

I order my passionflower online.

Recently I’ve even seen it on the shelves of my local organic health food store.

The passionflower in the photo was taken by a wonderful friend, Joyce.

She grows passionflower in her garden. It grows as a vine and creeps along a trellis in Joyce’s backyard.

Chamomile + Passionflower Tea to Sleep Easy

  • 1 cup (240 ml) water.

  • 2 teaspoons (10 ml) dried chamomile

  • 1 teaspoon ( 5 ml) dried passionflower

  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) honey

In a saucepan bring water to a low boil. You don’t want the water to be too hot or else it will scald the flowers. Add the dried flowers. Cover with a lid to prevent the volatile oils of the flowers from evaporating. Steep for 10-15 minutes. Pour into your favorite teacup. Stir in some organic honey to sweeten it.
